Read Me First!

Written Thursday, December 6, the day after the last class:

As you work on your final essays, do not ignore this website.  See in particular:
–the page ‘Outside the Classroom,’ which gives you the assignment as laid out in the syllabus, with a little more besides.
–the page for the last class (Dec 5 – Last Words), where I (try to) summarize the ways in which the different subjects and speakers might help you write up your own final project.  Read it all.
–the page on essay writing, which may help you.  See under ‘Important Pages’.
–there are a couple of sources, with pdf documents, under ‘Important Pages–Contacts and Supplementary Reading,’ that might be of use to you.

And do remember that I am on email and available for consultation anytime before your essays are due–I need a few hours to respond, but I’ll be around.

That fateful hour when you send me your final essay, by email, is December 10 by midnight–which we all know means when I get up on Tuesday morning.  All outstanding assignments are due at that time, if anyone has any to submit.  Late penalties are in effect, if we haven’t made other arrangements, but I’d rather grade something than nothing.  Get me something.

And for the record, because it has come up more than once:  If you have to change your topic, or adjust it, as you work on it, you don’t have to ask my permission in advance.  Do what you believe will serve the purpose best, and I’ll read it without considering your proposed topic.  Finally, what we want is a good essay.

Many thanks for your participation in the weekly meetings for this course.  Your questions, comments, challenges and provocations were greatly appreciated by our guests.  I know this, because I drove them all back to Toronto, and they told me so.  You were excellent hosts.  I’m appreciative–among other reasons, it spreads the word that this campus is a welcoming place for guests.  Word gets around….

Announcement:  That last class and office hours:
From an Email sent to everyone in the class 30 November 2018

Schedule for the final week:  The class on Wednesday December 5  is one hour, from 2pm.  There is a Holiday Party before that in MiST, beginning at 12:30.

Getting in touch with me:  I will be in my office from 11am-12noon and 3pm-5pm on Wednesday, the last day of classes, if you have any end-of-term questions about your final assignments.  Otherwise, I will be on email often, and I’ll answer, most likely, within eight hours.  If you have a question, send it along and I’ll do my best to offer advice.  I’ll do this right through the due date, Monday, 10 December at 11:59pm.  The closer to the due date, the less I might be able to help…not surprisingly.

Many of you won’t need help at all in these final days of the course–or based on your work so far, that’s my guess.  But if you do, don’t hesitate to contact me.

And finally, Contacts — All our guests have agreed to pass along their email addresses, and would welcome further contact, if you have questions, or, someday, you have need of some expertise.  You never know….  See this site under ‘Important Pages’ for ‘Contacts and Supplementary Reading’
